New Ferry Explosion Meeting

New Ferry Gas Explosion

On 24 October 2019, Alisha Butler and Mariam Bibi attended a meeting at Windsor House in New Ferry to give advice to residents on claiming compensation, following the prosecution of Pascal Blasio for causing the explosion in March 2017.

On 23 October 2019, Pascal Blasio was given 28 years in total for causing the explosion and the community were finally informed that the Gas Company involved were also found guilty in January 2019, but this information was not made public knowledge until after Mr Blasio’s successful prosecution.

We met with the New Ferry Community Land Trust, Cllr Jo Bird, New Ferry Traders Association and people from the local community.

We advised them of the possible avenues for making claims for personal injury, damage to property and loss of business etc.

We confirmed that as a local business we appreciate the impact that this explosion has had on New Ferry as a community and we would help those victims with their claims, whether for personal injury or damage to property without charge to them. Furthermore, we would not deduct anything from their compensation.

We went further and advised those in attendance that we would help support them with fundraising, business plans, leases for new and existing properties and any other legal queries they may have.

Phoenix Legal Solicitors understand the importance of helping the local community to rebuild and grow after a time of devastation and what the community feel has been a time of abandonment by the Government in terms of monetary support to those individuals and businesses affected. Some people have lost their livelihoods after years of trading the New Ferry high street.

What was evident from those in attendance this evening was the support that this community gave to each other, the will to stand together and as a collective have a louder voice. Sitting among these people you could feel the pain, the frustration but above all the strength to get Justice. We want to help them get Justice and as a local business we have a social responsibility to provide legal assistance to those who may not be able to afford such services.
